BENTONITE is a clay mineral predominantly consisting of the
mineral MONTMORILLONITE mixed with some related minerals like Nontronite and
Beldelite. These are three layered Aluminosilicates with molecules of water between
layers. For natural SODIUM BENTONITE, exchangeable Sodium cations are
predominant, rather than other cations like Calcium and Magnesium etc.
Similarly in CALCIUM BENTONITE, Calcium cations are predominant. In fact, in
all BENTONITES available in the world, the sodium variety has high-high
swelling and gelling properties along with good viscosity and liquid limit.
The BENTONITE found in Andhrapradesh state of India is an
igneous origin. It was formed from the volcanic ashes falling in stagnant
saline water in semi-arid conditions. Due to the natural characteristics of
these particular volcanic ashes, the chemical composition of this BENTONITE is
somewhat different from the BENTONITE available in the rest of the world. These
differences make this RAYALASEEMA BENTONITE most useful in various industries
throughout the world, mainly as BLEACHING EARTH in edible oil refineries &
vanaspathi.
Natural bentonites are used in any different applications
namely, the following.
· Cat
litter
· Material for
making paper
· A filler of
medicines in the pharmaceutical industry
· A thickening
agent in varnishes
· An
ingredient in detergents and soaps
· Purifier of
waste water
· Animal
poultry feed
· Thickening
and suspension agent in varnishing and dyes
· Useful as
bleaching earth in edible oil refinery after activation with sulphuric acid.
· Animal feed
supplements.
· Water
treatment.
· Radioactive
waste treatment.
· Pollution
control.
· Pet litter
and odor control.
· Agriculture
·
Horticulture.
· Aqua-culture
and pond filtration.
· Thermal
storage and solar refrigeration.
· Natural gas
purification.
· Light weight
bentonite concrete.
· Micronized
products.(For detergents, filler for plants)
· Coatings,
paper and adhesives.
·
Miscellaneous applications.
The three important properties of BENTONITES, namely
adsorption, catalysis and ion exchange are exploited in a number of
applications.
ANIMAL FEED SUPPLEMENTS
In the past thirty years, experiments have been conducted on
the use of CLINTOPTILOLITE AND Mordenite as dietary supplements in animal
husbandry, up to 10% BENTONITE has been added to the normal rations of pigs,
chickens and ruminants resulting in significant increase in feed conversion
values and the general health of the Animals. When fed to Chickens, BENTONITES
give rise it harder egg shells, At present one of the largest markets for
natural BENTONITE is in the area of Agricultuiral feed supplements.
A Typical product used as clinoptillolite natural BENTONITE
in feed applications the natural BENTONITES have the advantage over the
synthetic BENTONITE is as the later ca not used due to their instability.Small
amounts of transition cations account for the reported antimicrobial activity
in these products. It is being used by the producers of beef and dairy cattle,
boilers, commercial eggs, Swine, Sheep, and Turkeys in concentrations of 10 to
40 lbs per ton of complete feed. Reformulation of the energy, the salt or other
ingredients in the ratio is said to be unnecessary. However, some users
reformulate their products to take their rations calorific. The reported
benefits of additive are:
v Aflatoxin control.
v Increased feed
efficiency.
v Low mortality
rates.
v Improved production
rates.
v Increased profits.
v Reduced stress.
v Reduced need for
Antibiotics.
v Healthier live
stock.
In our Bentonite are having furthermore 34 rare element
minerals. It is used as a mineral supplementary as mineral mixture.
BENEFITS OF USING BENTONITE AS ADDITIVES IN ANIMAL FEEDS.
1. SWINE
Application rate: 4-9% by weight added to fodder.
Increase in food conversion factor, leading to lower
consumption of fodder.
Decrease in gastric, pulmonary and cardio diseases.
Decrease in mortality rate.
Increased weight of
new born pigs.
Increases in net weight gain by 25 to 29%.
CATTLE
Application rate: 5% by weight added to fodder.
Increase in food conversion factor,
This leads to lower consumption of fodder.
Decrease in Gastro intestinal tract diseases.
It enhances daily weight gain.
Absorbs ammonium ions released by Carbamide hydrolysis.
POULTRY
Application rate: 5% by weight added to fodder.
Increase in food conversion factor leading to lower
consumption of fodder.
Decrease in mortality rate.
It enhances daily weight gain.
Increase in body mass.
Increase uptake of nutrients in the feed.
Increase egg laying production by 3-7%.
Increases egg shell strength by 60-80%.
It enhances growth of new born Chicks.
ANIMAL FEED.
A-40 and -14*40 mesh products are fed to animals and
poultry. It has the following advantages.1) Increased NPN for ruminants.2) odor
control, 3) Reduced mortality.4) Improved feed conversion and production.5)
Better phosphate utilization, 6) Reduced need for antibiotics. 7) Buffer in
rumen.8) Reduced acidosis, 9) Increased pellet durability for pellet feeds.
